As the winning proposal will be constructed by the university to replace the entry canopy in front of Ryder Hall, funded by the University Campus Planning and the School of Architecture Advisory Council.

The design for the Ryder Hall canopy serves to create an entry for the building worthy of the program it represents, white giving the Northeastern University community a place of refuge and activity in one of its most busy areas. The goal is to activate the un-used lawn space in Sentenial Square. The canopy incorporates an amphitheater that can be used as a gathering space as well as a performance / practice area for the theatre major students on the first floor. It also serves as a ramp to collect rainwater for irrigation of surrounding planting and groundwater regulation. Under the canopy, users can relax or work on benches and tables, and technology is potentially integrated to inform and instill awareness in the visitors.
