BAUGRUPPEN PROJECKT - HOUSING STUDIO
// Completion Date: January - April, 2015
// Project Location: Pankow, Berlin
// Humboldt University of Berlin Housing Studio: (Instructor) Christiana da Silva
Original Project is done with Thomas Koyama as partner. However, for personal portfolio reasons, the project is completely redone and redesigned.
The site is in the northern part of Berlin called Pankow. The neighborhood has all the amenities young families need. There are shops for all daily needs, kindergartens, schools for all ages, a children's farm, cafes, and restaurants.
There is a small green park next to the site that connects to a school. I proposed extending the existing park into the site to combine them into a more complete park since there are none around the 15-minute walking distance.
We were given a list of hypothetical clients that came together to invest in their Baugruppen housing. The group desires an art room for their children to enjoy art lessons after school, a communal lounge area with a kitchen to host gatherings, and a small library for reading.
A few clients have a more specific request. Bruno has hopes to open up his own cafe, Franziska desires to have her own flower shop in the neighborhood, and couple Jan and Lillian plan to move their design studio closer to their home.
With the interventions and extension of the park into in place, a landscape ramp is made to create connectivity between the two schools and enhance the vibrancy of the central park. To justify the 40% of the site turned into a public park, ground floor areas are put as retail rental spaces are allocated to offset the budget.
